?HTC and Samsung rumors emerge after CES action. HTC?s next flagship, the HTC M7, might feature a 4.7-inch display with on-screen buttons. On the Samsung camp, the Samsung Galaxy S4 might feature additional pixels on the side of the phone.?

HTC?s unannounced M7 device could feature on-screen buttons like the Nexus 4, while the Samsung Galaxy S4 might feature flexible display technology. Both devices are expected to ship with Android Jelly Bean OS 4.2 out of the box.

Display could be the center of attraction inside the smartphone space this year as leaks reveal larger Android tablets with HD capacitive touchscreen display with better viewing angles and better than Apple Retina display technology.

According to the active rumor mill, the HTC M7 will feature a 1080p 4.7-inch display, similar to the HTC Butterfly but could be better with one-hand use. Latest leaks suggest that the HTC M7 will take advantage of Android Jelly Bean?s on-screen buttons similar to the Google Nexus 4.

Images also show the upcoming HTC Sense 5, the Taiwan-based phone maker?s new custom user interface that will run on top of the original Android smartphone interface. For comparison, the HTC Butterfly features the ?older but current? Sense 4+ user interface. The HTC Butterfly is the international unlocked version of the Verizon HTC Droid DNA.

HTC M7 Rumors

HTC M7 vs Samsung Galaxy S4 rumors focus on display, unsurprisingly.

In related news, Samsung is also expected to reveal its new Galaxy S4 this year. The Samsung Galaxy S3 successor might hit the stage in mid-2013 just like the 2012 third-generation Galaxy handset.

According to rumors posted online, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature a larger 4.99-inch Super AMOLED 1080p display. However, CES-related rumors point out that Samsung might take advantage of its flexible display technology with better pixels construction. Made of plastic according to Samsung, the new technology will minimize battery consumption and more durable than glass-based AMOLED display. It can also introduce a new form factor with additional pixels located at the side of the phone.

Samsung might use the new display technology on the Samsung Galaxy S4, of course. Also worth noting is the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which could use the same Galaxy S4-like design just like the Galaxy Note 2-Galaxy S3 similarity.

Both HTC and Samsung are optimistic that this year, they can sell more smartphones with the help of Google?s Android platform. HTC?s CEO Peter Chou recently said that HTC?s ?worst year? is over, and 2013 might give them better profit. If the HTC M7 can outsell the Samsung Galaxy S4, then I guess the worst year of HTC is ?really? over. But if Samsung can still maintain its lead by selling more Galaxy S4 handsets, then it is the same old 2012-like story, again.
