Holtsberry/ Whitman Wedding
Chelsea Holtsberry and Joel Whitman were married June 22, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, by Pastor Mark DeLassus.
Parents of the bride are Mark and Lisa Holtsberry, of Paulding. Parents of the groom are Bruce and Kara Whitman, of Payne.
Nuptial music was performed by Kelley Phillips and Myra Guilford. Ceremony scripture reading was shared by the bride's aunt and godmother, Linda Wirtner.
For her wedding gown, the bride wore a classic diamond white,?A-line silhouette gown made of bridal satin. The dress was adorned in decorative pearls, appliques,?and lace, complimenting the chapel train and mantilla veil.
The wedding bouquet was composed of coral, soft pink, and white?garden and sweet heart roses arranged in nosegay.?The wedding colors were coral, gold, and white.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was Lauren Holtsberry, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Emily Whitman and Ashley Elston, sisters of the groom; Kara Knepper and Becky Ruble, both?friends of bride.
Jr. Bridesmaid was Abigail Welly, cousin of the bride.The flower girls were Ava Elston, niece of the groom, Emma Stouffer, cousin of the bride, and Mia Ringger, cousin of the bride.
Serving the groom as best man was Ryan Whitman, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Nathan Holtsberry, brother of the bride; Joel Elston, brother-in-law of the groom; Jarrod Childs and Riley Linder, both friends of the groom.
Jr. Groomsman was Reese Etzler, cousin of the groom. The ringbearer was Wyatt Coomer, cousin of the groom.
Ceremony guest registrant was Ashley Schulz, cousin of the bride. Ceremony programs were given by the groom's cousins Samantha Etzler and Kynsie Etzler.
Serving as ushers were Bobby Schulz, the bride's cousin; Craig Pullen, the groom's cousin; Clint Reinhart and Adam Miller, both friends of the groom.
The bride has a master's degree in occupational therapy from the University of Findlay, Ohio. She is an occupational therapist at the Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville and Paulding County Hospital, Paulding.
The groom has an associate's degree in business management from Northwest State Community College, Archbold, Ohio. He is deputy auditor at the Paulding?county courthouse.
A reception for?450 guests was held at the Knight of Columbus, Defiance.
The couple traveled to St. Petersburg Beach, Florida for their honeymoon.
The couple resides in Payne, Ohio.

Did Chromecast just kill Google TV?
When I first saw Chromecast announced earlier today, the first thought I had was the title of this column: Did Chromecast just kill Google TV? It's a valid question, but a more complex one than it would first seem. If you've been reading, you'll know that a few weeks ago I purchased my first Google TV, and I've had mixed feelings about it so far. On one hand, I can see the potential of having full Android on my TV, but on the other hand, it's just that right now: potential.?
Google TV is still based on Google's lost Android version: 3.x Honeycomb. Honeycomb was the interim version that came out when Google realized that it had to have something more optimized for tablets, because manufacturers just kept loading up Gingerbread on tablets and giving users a seriously wonky experience. Honeycomb never went open source, and was quickly forgotten once Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich came along to bring in Google's true vision of a responsive design system that would adapt to any screen size. The Google TV update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean has been promised, but has yet to arrive.?
In the meantime, Google TV is a great idea with bad execution. Unless you have DirectTV, the live TV options like searching your guide listings, having Google TV change the channel for you, and the new PrimeTime app which would learn your favorites and recommend other shows you might like, in addition to reminding you when your shows are on - all of that, doesn't work on any cable provider other than DirectTV. Additionally, the app ecosystem is very limited, and Chrome on Google TV is stuck at version 11, while my Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are both on version 29 (beta), and my laptop is on version 30 (dev).?So, all that leaves as far as useful things I can do with my Google TV are: watch YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Instant. And, as you can see, that's why the question came into my head: Did Chromecast just kill Google TV? It may be fair to respond that Google TV was stillborn, but for now, let's assume that it at least had a future before now.?
Purchase choice
Chromecast essentially takes everything that works well about Google TV and strips out the rest. Not only that, the device costs less than half of what the cheapest Google TV would set you back. That puts Chromecast squarely in the impulse purchase territory. I have already bought a Chromecast on impulse twice, and cancelled both orders and the device hasn't been on the market 12 hours yet. The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is my Google TV. If I didn't own a Google TV, I would have purchased a Chromecast in an instant (of course, I almost did anyway). The only things that held me back were the promise of Jelly Bean, and the fact that with GTV, I don't have to change the video input on my TV to do stuff (yes, I'm that lazy).?
But, since I am an outlier, and someone who will often buy something for no other reason than to play with it once (see: Ouya, Dreamcast, and dozens of apps and games for my Nexuses or my wife's iPad), I am in no way the measuring stick here. For the most part, consumers don't even know that Google TV exists unless it happened to be installed on their new TV when they bought it. No one purchases a Google TV buddy box on a whim, you have to actively go out and find them. Chromecast could very well be different.?As I said, Chromecast is just $35, so it is a total impulse buy if you come across it at Best Buy or on Amazon.com. And, the device itself is as simple as could be because it essentially is little more than a streaming/screencasting device. Assuming it works as Google has said it will, the device is simple and it does what most people would want from a Google TV device: getting YouTube on your TV. Add on that it is a hub for your mobile devices, which people are using all the time anyway, and the device has all the hallmarks of a winner.?
The Chromebook Corollary
That's when I remembered one thing: I love my Chromebook, but it doesn't keep me from using my Ubuntu laptop or my Nexus devices. The Chromecast falls into the same area. Assuming that Google TV will get the Jelly Bean update soon enough; and, assuming that update helps to right many of the issues with the platform, the Chromecast will become the same option in the lineup as a Chromebook.?
The reason that Chomebooks exist even with Android soon making its way onto laptops, and in the face of full platforms like Windows, Ubuntu, and MacOS is because not everyone needs a full platform. Sure, it's nice to have the option to do the extra things that you can in Windows or on Android, but if you live your life in a browser (as I do), then there really is no downside to a Chromebook: it's inexpensive and does everything I need.?The Chromecast is the same idea: it is an inexpensive device that does the majority of what one might want out of a device that is hooked to a TV; but, if you need more out of life, there is still Google TV. Android/Chrome chief Sundar Pichai said as much in an interview with AllThingsD today. Google TV will support Google Cast (the protocol that runs Chromecast) in the future, but Pichai says that GTV will also become "a full-fledged Android for television". Pichai also said that Google TV could provide "an immersive experience" which would be more conducive to gaming, which makes it sound like my hope for a Nexus TV could be a reality soon enough.?Conclusion
The real question isn't so much whether Chromecast will kill Google TV, but rather if Google TV will ever reach its potential. If it can become "full-fledged Android for television" as Sundar Pichai says, then it should have a fine life living alongside Chromecast, just like Chromebooks can easily coexist alongside more full-featured products. But, until Google TV can reach that level, it looks as though Chromecast may be the way to go if you want a Google product that hooks up to your TV.?
Chromecast is lightweight, inexpensive, and easily controlled from any mobile device. Meanwhile, Google TV is buggy, and troublesome. That seems to make a pretty easy choice.?

The ?Young Gardeners? were at the garden without supervision?? We got it under control!? continuing with on-going maintenance, but due to rain the time spent at the garden was cut short.
Later in the afternoon the youth presented a hands-on Garden Workshop at the camp with the assistant of Garden Coordinator, Carmen Jones and Program Manager, Suzette Weekes. ?Planting Seeds for the Future?, where each camper? planted seeds of their choice and to provide care for at home then return to the garden at a later date to plant their produce and then harvest during appropriate time.

The campers were given tips on how to care for their seeds as well as information and knowledge around the benefit of wholesome food and healthy lifestyle and physical rewards of gardening. They were also introduce to the concept of GSE program, the opportunity to build our community capacity and engaged our youth to be an advocate and voice for creating strategies and policies to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic; to promote and foster the nutritional and health benefit of eating healthy, as well as to inspiring behavior changes among young people.?

Linnie Frank Bailey: Washington Watch: Week 25 - "Obama Steps Up"

On Week 25 of his second term, President Obama spoke to the nation as a black man living in America. Reminiscent of the speech he gave on race during his first campaign, this 'impromptu' and unexpected talk before an afternoon press briefing surprised even the reporters who were gathered. They did not expect to see him, and neither did we. So glad he showed up.
NPR's "Obama Explains Black America To White America," sums it up best:
The president did something no other holder of his office has ever had the life experience to do: He used the bully pulpit to, as an African-American, explain black America to white America in the wake of last week's acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.
Appearing unannounced before surprised reporters who were expecting the White House press secretary, it was Obama -- "the bridge" as New Yorker editor David Remnick has called him -- trying to span a divide. It was Obama trying to help white Americans comprehend black America's reaction to the Martin-Zimmerman tragedy.

The President confirmed what we all know. As an American of African-descent he has experienced racism and profiling. He spoke of instances before he was President, however, many in the black community believe the vitriol and disrespect shown him as President is also tainted by racism.
For goodness sake, he HAD TO SHOW HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE to quiet the rantings of fools who never should have been taken seriously! He WAS CALLED A LIAR from the House floor while giving a state-of-the-union-address! You had parents in an uproar because he wanted to address students at the beginning of a school year and encourage them to succeed!
But more ominously, you have a group of Republicans in the House who oppose EVERYTHING he puts forward (even if they were once for it) and who go to great lengths to keep the President from succeeding.
Politics as usual? No.
The recent New York Magazine piece "Anarchists of the House" describes this rampant dysfunction. among House Republicans. The subtitle says: "The Republican Congress is testing a new frontier of radicalism--governmental sabotage." In describing GOP strategy at the beginning of the president's first term:
"If some of them supported Obama's proposals, they would only help the proposals seem more sensible. "It was absolutely critical that everybody be together," Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell later said, "because if the proponents of the bill were able to say it was bipartisan, it tended to convey to the public that this is okay."
And so the Republican strategy during Obama's first two years was almost total gridlock. Republican leaders aggressively pressured their members to withdraw support for any major Obama initiative, even denouncing ideas they themselves had previously endorsed."

It would be naive to think this anti-Obamanism does not have at least some racial undertones. As do the cartoons and caricatures of the President displayed in conservative-leaning papers across the country.
A large part of the response to President Obama probably has to do with fear of the diverse coalition that elected him. America is changing. We now live in a multi-ethnic society. Many of us have family members who are of a different race. Census figures show a younger, more diverse nation in the years ahead. These Americans will demand a 'seat at the table'...and the right to walk home without being followed and attacked.
So with this backdrop, the President personalized the plight of black men in this country without castigating the system that gave us the verdict. He simply described the real world -- reminding us who we are and how we got here. Illustrating that even though he has reached the highest office in the land, he understands from personal experience the legacy of discrimination.
Tour? did a fine job of explaining the risks the President took with the speech in a Time mag op-ed entitled: The Bravery of Obama's Trayvon Speech, saying:
"It was a treacherous speech politically because for one part of the divide the answer to black pain is: get over it, as Representative Andy Harris recently said. Racism is in the past, white privilege is a myth, profiling is a ghost: Doesn't Obama's election prove we're beyond all that? The President knows better. He asked, in his 19-minute address, that black pain be acknowledged, that internalized bias be taken seriously, that history be understood as not done with us yet."

The President, who was raised by a white mom and white grandparents, understands our differences and the need to 'explain' us to each other. In addition, he continues his quest to unite us. He did so with this recent speech, as with his first speech on race, "A More Perfect Union" in 2008, in which he stated:
"I am the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas. I was raised with the help of a white grandfather who survived a Depression to serve in Patton's Army during World War II and a white grandmother who worked on a bomber assembly line at Fort Leavenworth while he was overseas. I've gone to some of the best schools in America and lived in one of the world's poorest nations. I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slaves and slaveowners - an inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters. I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, and for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible.
It's a story that hasn't made me the most conventional candidate. But it is a story that has seared into my genetic makeup the idea that this nation is more than the sum of its parts - that out of many, we are truly one."

AT&T adds two new tiers to their Mobile Share plans
AT&T announced two additions to it's Mobile Share plans, a 300MB tier and a 2GB tier. The 300MB tier is aimed more at basic tiers, while the 2GB plan, at $50 per month, is meant to give more flexibility to those customers that need more than 1GB, says AT&T.
The 300 MB plan is only $20 a month, with additional costs per device added. Now, customers with basic and quick-messaging devices can share data and unlimited talk and text for as low as $50 a month and smartphone customers for $70 a month.
The new 2 GB plan provides another choice for customers whose data needs exceed our existing 1 GB plan available today.
Both AT&T's Mobile Share plans are allow customers to share a pool of data between several devices without the need for separate accounts for phones and other devices. So rather than paying AT&T separately for the data on your iPad with LTE, you add it to your existing AT&T bill. Both AT&T and Verizon push customers towards these shared data plans, though in AT&T's case, individual plans for singular devices are still offered.
If you want to sign up for either of these new Mobile Share tiers, you can do so beginning this Friday, July 26. Anyone planning on doing that?
